S$500 million of investment funds, including private capital from banks and strategic investors, will be available for media projects and businesses, announced the Media Development Authority (MDA) yesterday.
Developing local talent and attracting foreign professionals will be a key focus of the Singapore Fusion Media 2015 masterplan to transform Singapore into a regional media hub for interactive and digital media (IDM).
To be unveiled later this year, the masterplan also aims to drive global demand for Made-in-Singapore content and growth in the creation, management and distribution of digital media content and technologies.
The masterplan aims to create 10,000 new jobs and value-added contribution of S$10 billion by 2015. The media industry currently employs 53,000 workers in 500 businesses and contributes S$4.9 billion in value-add.

Microsoft made it official on April 3: There will be no new reprieves for Windows XP (other than on Ultra Low-Cost PCs).
Some customers and partners had been hoping the company might extend again the deadline for all PC makers to be allowed to preload Windows XP, rather than Windows Vista, on new PCs. But today, Microsoft officials said the current June 30, 2008 cut-off date would remain in place for the vast majority of machines.
