How To Enable Games In Windows 7 Professional
Just received an email from our long-time supporting customer, to whom has just bought a new system from us and was wondering where is her favorite MineSweeper and Solitaire game in her new system.
Pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, her new system has almost all the games disabled by default, by Microsoft, of course. The reason is probably Microsoft’s way of telling users that this is a business system and not a gaming one!
Anyway, to turn on the default games back again, just follow the steps below and you can have fun while you work then (just wonder how to do both at the same time ??)
- Go to Control Panel
- Click on <<Programs and Features>> and then click on Turn Windows Features On/Off on the left panel.
- A dialog box will be shown, as seen below:
Turn Windows Features On or Off
- Tick the Games option to enable all games or select whichever you want by putting a tick next to the games.

“An error has occured. Not all of your windows features have been changed.”
This is the message I receive each time I try to turn on the games. Right now, they are all turned off and I cannot get any of them to turn on. Any help?
Sorry, missed your comment. Hope it is working now though.
Anyway, you need to have administrative rights in order to turn on the features, that means you must be a local admin or a domain admin for your computer.
If you are and yet it still don’t work, you might need to run System File Checker.
Go to Command Prompt and type in “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes).
Hopefully it should resolve it.
I have tried that and I get an error saying not all features were successfully changed, do I need to do this logged in as the admin?
Yes, you’ll need to log in as local administrator or domain administrator in order to turn it on.

What if Games folder isn’t on the list?
“Games” does not appear in “Turn Windows Features On” so there is no box to check. What next?
I am not having option of games in control panel>turn off or on windows features…

wow, six years down the road and you’re still helpful! I just RE-installed Win 7 Pro x64 the first time since I bought and initially installed it in 2009. I’ve gotten a tad feeble in the days since then, and the ol memory cell slips a bit now and then. Thanks much for keeping this up!

Go to Control Panel\Performance Information and Tools\Adjust Visual Effects.
If originally selected “Adjust for Best Performance” which disables numerous visual effects, change that to “Adjust for Best Appearance”.
That should solve your problem.
If problem persist, you might need to update the drivers for your video card, or uninstall/reinstall the video card.
